Produced and directed by Frank Lloyd, a specialist in swashbuckling adventure, 1924’s The Sea Hawk starred Milton Sills and remains, almost a century later, a reference point for seafaring movies. Itself a European transplant—and something of an unsung hero—Pinot Blanc is well cast in offering homage to Lloyd and his enduring classic.

Pinot Blanc is the white sister of Pinot Noir. Though best known in France’s Alsace region, this rare white grape variety thrives in the United States, particularly on Long Island and in California. The Golden State’s warm, sunny climate ripens the grapes beautifully and helps them develop delicious flavor complexity. If you haven’t tasted a Pinot Blanc yet, you’re in for a real treat here...

Fresh from the 2020 vintage, this elegant exclusive offers expressive white blossom, pear and apple aromas and flavors. It’s dry and vibrant, with a lovely floral lift on the long, perfumed finish. As the name implies, it’ll be tasty with seafood, as well as summer salads or grilled chicken.

A must-have for your next swashbuckling adventure. Swoop down on this lovely Pinot Blanc before it flies out of our cellars.

Classic Movie Pairing: The Sea Hawk (1924)
Silent cinema at its epic best, this high-sea adventure tells the tale of Sir Oliver Tressilian (Milton Sills), a British nobleman, who after being captured and turned into a galley slave on a Spanish galleon, finds a new life as a pirate captain. The film, a true spectacle even for viewers of today, features full-size ships that served as floating sets and over 1,000 extras. Director Frank Lloyd’s high level of craftsmanship was rewarded by an enthusiastic audience who made it the top grossing movie of the year.
