Angelo Maci’s Pillastro collection boasts some of the most popular Italian wines in our cellar. It’s no surprise when you consider all the acclaim that he, his wines and his cellar have collected since its founding in 1989. Angelo himself has three Vinitaly Winemaker of the Year titles—and three Italian Winery of the Year nods for his Cantine due Palme cellar in sunny Puglia. Then in 2021 and 2023, Italy’s prestigious guide Gambero Rosso named them Cooperative Cellar of the Year.
Pillastro Nero is a true ‘black red’—from the ornate label to the deep, dark wine inside. Angelo crafted it from Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Primitivo (40%) grown on his 80-year-old alberello-trained bush vines. These gnarled heirlooms yield precious few grapes, meaning each one is a knot of intensely concentrated flavor.
Back in the winery, Angelo treated Pillastro Nero to six months of barrel aging. This imparted toasty oak and sweet spice notes to the wine’s lusciously ripe, black- and bramble-fruit flavors.
Ripe, smooth and wonderfully rich, Pillastro Nero will also shine alongside a juicy steak or heaping plate of spaghetti and meatballs. And it’s sure to impress fans of Angelo’s Pillastro collection (or any BIG, super-rich reds). Secure your share while our limited cases last.
