Peña Garnacha 2022

Inspired by an annual festival in San Roque where locals dress in colors representing their tribe or club (peña), Master of Wine Norrel Robertson crafted Peña Garnacha—the perfect, pure-fruited Spanish red for fans of the famed grape (aka Grenache in France) to proudly serve.

Norrel is a master with the grape, earning the nickname el escocés volante (“the flying Scotsman”) for his winemaking travels to France, Italy, Portugal, Australia and beyond. Few would have guessed that he’d set down roots in Spain’s high-altitude plains of Calatayud in the rugged Aragón region. But that’s exactly what he did.

Turns out, the rocky, arid land is filled with ancient vines that yield a powerful combination of concentration and thrilling freshness reminiscent of fine Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Starring the same flagship grape, Peña Garnacha offers silky layers of crushed red berries, herbs and peppery spice.
