Les Deux Côtes Crozes Hermitage 2015
Les Deux Côtes Crozes Hermitage 2015
- Rhône - France
- 2015 - Syrah
- 12.5 % Alc - 750 ml
Tucked behind the legendary hill of Hermitage (home to ultra-premium, expensive Syrah) is the appellation of Crozes-Hermitage. It may not have the legendary status of its (much) smaller neighbor, but it’s also home to very exciting (and actually affordable), black-fruited Syrah – especially when dynamic winemaking duo Xavier Frouin and Olivier Ciosi are involved.
”What I found especially thrilling when tasting my way through the 2015 northern Rhônes was that it is not necessary to pay top dollar in order to experience 2015’s sumptuous combination of ripeness and precision. … St-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage have also excelled themselves.” – Jancis Robinson, Master of Wine.
And Xavier and Olivier’s exclusive take on this spectacular vintage is delicious proof. Les Deux Côtes hails from two special, gently sloping vineyards in Crozes – the granite base of the first site lends structure, while the mineral-rich soils of the second impart rich fruit flavor.
Look forward to complex, ripe cherry and fig flavors, giving way to layers of heady dark fruit. Velvety tannins frame the long finish, which is punctuated with classic notes of white pepper and violet. This discovery’s made to be enjoyed like they would in the northern Rhône village of Tain – alongside a hearty beef stew, mature cheeses or a big, warming bowl of ratatouille.
