“Whether you’re a collector or new to wine, Paso Robles and its wines are worth knowing better,” says Wine Spectator.
Also worth knowing? Head winemaker at Robert Hall Winery, Don Brady – one of the pioneers of Paso. His wines are so sought after, they’ve been served at the White House and enjoyed by the likes of Queen Elizabeth. He’s also won scores of awards, including a few Winemaker and Winery of the Year titles.
In the spring of 2016, Don and his vineyard team decided to uproot a plot full of Grenache Blanc vines – while this Rhône Valley native makes utterly delicious wine, they all thought the grape was just too obscure to be worthwhile.
But then, something pretty special happened …
Don noticed the vines were really thriving – chalk it up to the incredible 2016 vintage, or perhaps the vines themselves knew: this was it. Either way, they got a stay of execution. And the gamble paid off: the grapes were of phenomenal quality come harvest. And the wine they produced, though a limited batch, was pure gold.
Before Don could even worry about how he was going to sell this gorgeous new creation, our California wine expert, Clare Tooley, swooped in to take the whole lot – because this is just the kind of unique-story, top-quality wine we love bringing to our customers.
In the glass, look for a lovely, fresh, and distinctive white pear nose; the palate is fresh and bright fruited, with tropical- and citrus-fruit notes and a warm, gentle spice on the finish. Serve chilled with chicken fajitas or all manner of seafood.
And do order yours soon – with Don’s name on this one and the tiny batch produced, it won’t be around for long.
