Cru Secret Morgon 2014
Cru Secret Morgon 2014
- Beaujolais - France
- 2014 - Gamay
- 13.0 % Alc - 750 ml
The winemaker behind this perfectly mature, velvety red has 200 cases he would like us to discreetly clear from his cellar – but at a price that would upset the locals. So he issued a decree: don’t name me!
However, we can tell you that, with 14 generations of expertise and ancestry dating back to the 1500s, he is considered to be the king of his ‘cru.’ You can see from the label that the ‘cru’ is Morgon – for many, the finest of Beaujolais’ 10 ‘crus’ (aka the best wine villages in the region). Top critic Robert Parker calls them “the aristocrats.”
Morgon is actually a southern extension of Burgundy and “can stand against many fine Burgundies, at a fraction of the price” as it “has the fruit, structure and ageability” (Wine Enthusiast). In fact, locals choose it over the more expensive reds from their neighbors – and they’d be outraged over the fantastic price we're offering.
This impressive red is drinking beautifully now, with layers of ripe cherry and raspberry, mature savory notes, and superb concentration. Perfect for special summer meals or a plate of your favorite charcuterie.
