Located along the Galiban Mountain range, Chalone benefits from intense sunshine (a key ripening factor) as well as high altitudes and cooling breezes from the nearby Monterey Bay, which allow grapes to retain freshness. Pinot Blanc—a rare sister of Pinots Noir and Grigio—thrives in Chalone, especially in great vintages like 2019. One taste of this fine example, and Clare knew her search for the ideal seafood white was over.
