With Bordeaux’s 2015 vintage being lauded as one of the best in history, it can be difficult to find a great value – especially with savvy Bordeaux enthusiasts constantly on the prowl for the best-of-the-best. That’s why we’re thrilled to bring you Château Tour de Miot, an award-winner from a small, family-owned estate just down the road from storied Saint-Emilion.
And in our humble opinion, it represents everything that’s great about modern, small-batch Bordeaux.
The Mouty family’s estate is just down the road from storied Saint-Emilion (home to some of the world’s most famous, and pricey, Merlot). And their prime-sited, carefully tended, 40-year-old Merlot vines are key to the serious flavor concentration that awaits you in the glass. Look for velvety, dark-fruit flavor with a lovely lift of earthy minerality. Oh, and we’re not the only ones impressed with it.
Judges at the Concours des Vins Lyon awarded it a gold medal, alongside Saint-Emilion Grand Crus costing four or five times the price you see here.
Serving tip: Decant a bit before enjoying, to really open up all the aromatics and flavors – 20 minutes ought to do the trick. Then pair up with richer red meat dishes or a vegetarian mushroom bake.
