“Through the roof good.”
That’s The Wine Advocate’s take on Bordeaux’s 2019 vintage – a year that’s been universally lavished with critical praise. One of our favorite tastes of this epic, young vintage is from Château Matalin, a 40-hectare property located in the Bordeaux districts of Targon and Capian in the Entre-deux-Mers. It’s been owned by the Faure family for four generations, and Thierry Faure has managed the estate for over 30 years, striving to produce wines of great expression and complexity.
In short, the exact kinds of wines we scout the globe for.
This is his flagship release, crafted from three of Bordeaux’s stars: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. Thierry’s got a bit of an edge, too. His vines all perch atop clay, limestone, and gravel soils, which favor all three of these prized grapes. Brimming with classic dark fruit and earthy spice notes, it’s guaranteed to impress on your dinner table. To really open up its aromas and flavors, we recommend you pour it into a decanter (or pretty pitcher) 15-30 minutes before serving.
