“Argentina is arguably making the best wines in its history right now,” writes The Drinks Business. Taste for yourself with the highly anticipated 2020 release of this limited-production Malbec. We went to incredible lengths—make that heights!—to secure it for you...
The San Isidro vineyard (tucked away in Salta’s Cafayate Valley) is a staggering 10,000 feet above sea level. And it’s home to 60 acres of pure Malbec perfection, as you’ll discover with just one sip of Ascencion Reserve.
It’s crafted at one of Argentina’s oldest estates, awarded ‘Salta Winery of the Year’ honors at the New York International Wine Competition. From meticulous hand harvesting and sorting to 12 months’ aging in the finest French and American oak barrels, there was no expense spared. This is as big, rich and bold as Argentine Malbec gets.
The estate’s old-vine Malbec brings intensely ripe fruit to the wine—look for luscious mouthfuls of black fruit (black currant, blackberry, blueberry), plus notes of spice and vanilla from the barrel aging. It also features splashes of Cabernet Franc and Bonarda (an Argentine specialty), which bring hints of fresh mint and a firm, mineral-streaked structure. Ascencion Reserve is the ultimate steak red, but also velvety enough to sip on its own.
